Why do things always take longer than you expect? As I was wrestling to get out of bed not wanting to get up on an early Sunday morning, I was trying to figure out how not wake up my wife beside me as I was crinkling my Prilosec wrapper. I really wanted my first cup of coffee before I had to deal with the clogged kitchen sink from late the night before. “Good morning Hun. I’ve got to get the sink fixed.“ “Not now,” she said, “it’s almost time to go to church.” “Naaah it will only take me 5 minutes to fix the sink.” “No it won’t, it always takes you longer than you think to get things done.” “No it will only take me a few minutes,” I said. “Ok I’m going to time you,” she said. Uh oh the challenge was on; my manhood and pride were on the line now!
As I inspected below the sink and took apart the apart the intricately connected PVC pipes, I found the clog just as I suspected right where I had spit out all the pomegranate seeds the night before clogging the garbage disposal along with all that other nasty stuff that gets caught down there over time. Needless to say, one of the plastic washers broke and I knew I would need another one to replace it, that’s when I realized it was going to take much longer than I expected. “Ok hun you where right, things always do take longer than expected.”
So why do things always take longer than expected? Why does healing always take so long? Why do problems that we are facing always seem to take so long to resolve themselves? Why does God seem like He takes so long to answer our prayers? These are all perplexing questions. These are some of the very same questions that have been asked for thousands of years.
In the scriptures that we have been studying, Matthew 24:48 says,” But if the evil servant says in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to…” You can read the rest, but the point is that Jesus is coming back and it might seem like it is taking a long time, but He will come in all Glory and splendor! It is not delayed as far as God is concerned, He is right on time, His time.
We have discussed in our men’s meetings different views on when He might come. I have a question what do you believe and why? Are we in the latter days? Is there any scripture yet to be fulfilled before He comes back again? What are your views? I would like to hear your answers.
